Lahore, April 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):University of Management and Technology (UMT) feels proud to share its incubated startup’s glorious success in the National Final of GSEA Pakistan 2021-2022. Ayesha Rafiq, the founder of the startup, “Institute of Online Learning and Earning” and current student of BS Accounting and Finance, pitched her business idea under the umbrella of CENTIN/Futurizm (Business Incubation Center of UMT). She successfully gained the title of “National Winner” in the National Final of GSEA Pakistan 2021-2022 by winning the prize amount of PKR 500,000.

The Global Student Entrepreneur Awards (GSEA) is the premier global competition for students who own and operate a business while attending a college or university. Nominees compete against their peers from around the world in a series of local or national competitions in anticipation to qualify for the GSEA Finals.

UMT President, Ibrahim Hasan Murad appreciated the whole team of CENTIN/Futurizm and Ayesha Rafiq on this marvellous achievement. Mr. Murad expressed that it had always been a priority of UMT to promote entrepreneurial culture. President UMT also wished Ayesha Rafiq success for her participation in the upcoming global challenge of the same series where she will essentially compete with the best student-entrepreneurial talent from different countries. The winner of the GSEA global finals will get a cash prize of $25,000 and a chance to share its business idea in front of the renowned experts for quality mentorship.

Lahore, March 11, 2022 (PPI-OT):The New-Batch Orientation Program Spring 2022 was arranged on March 03, 2022 to welcome the participants of the undergraduate and graduate programs with the aim to help new participants build trust and enable a successful transition to the university environment.

Goals and Objectives of the Orientation Program

Introduction of participants to the university services, campus environment, and facilities

Facilitate initial academic advisement, course selection and the registration process

Promote positive attitudes and stimulate excitement for learning

Provide a welcoming atmosphere

To build trust, feeling of belonging and connection

To acquaint with co-curricular activities through club and societies

Learning Outcomes

Through the orientation program the students will know about:

UMT services

Understand the academic advisement and course selection procedure

The campus environment, culture, faculty, staff and existing participants

Comprehensive information of the on-campus resources

Rector UMT Dr Asif Raza welcomed all the new members of the UMT family and congratulated them for selecting one of the best universities of Pakistan for the next phase of their journey. He motivated the newcomers by giving a motivational speech and said “Together, we can be the face of change”. He encouraged newcomers to go forth in a spirit of exploration and research.

The new participants were given a brief about the role of academic advisers, faculty, research culture, career perspectives, teaching methodologies and class decorum. Participants were provided with the Orientation Participant Guide encapsulating the academic calendar, important dates, registration procedure, add/drop week, academic jargons, commonly used abbreviations, IT resources, Participant Portal usage, Moodle/ERP, general policies, participant ID card policy, contact details of administrative/academic staff, credit hours, semester, short attendance and SGPA/CGPA details.

Throughout the Orientation Program, information helpdesks were placed to facilitate participants’ queries regarding academic and non-academic policies and procedures. Special and engaging performances were made by the students of the Drama Club and Symphony Club.

Participants were given a tour of their respective School/Institute, faculty offices, Information Processing Center (IPC), Learning Resource Center (LRC), Participant Relation Section (PRS), Mosque, gym, medical unit, surveillance room and cafeteria. The UMT Ushers left no stone unturned to make sure the orientation program is carried forth smoothly and in the best way possible through their classic management skills.

Orientation Guidelines:

Only one parent/guardian may accompany the participant (COVID-19 vaccination certificate will be required).

Lahore, February 21, 2022 (PPI-OT):On the second day of the 21st convocation of UMT i.e. February 19, 2022, participants of Institute of Liberal Arts (ILA), School of Professional Psychology (SPP), School of Social Sciences and Humanities (SSSH), School of Governance and Society (SGS), School of Law and Policy (SLP), School of Media and Communication Studies (SMCS), School of Architecture and Planning (SAP), School of Food and Agricultural Sciences (SFAS), School of Health Sciences (SHS), School of Design and Textiles (SDT), and School of Engineering (SEN) were awarded degrees.

The hosts said that today is a memorable day for all of the graduating students and their parents and thanked the Ushers and Marshals for their hard work as a solid team to make the event a success. They advised the graduates to be thankful to their parents and the faculty for their achievement and told them to never stop dreaming.

In the first session of the day, Dean of School of Social Sciences and Humanities (SSSH) Dr Mumtaz Akhter welcomed the chief guest Mr Shahid Siddique, Dean Lahore School of Economics. In her welcome note she said that this convocation is another milestone in the history of UMT. She told that our faculty and staff have dedicated themselves wholeheartedly to make UMT an innovation hub and expressed her greatest gratitude to the founder Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad (Shaheed).

The Chief Guest Mr Shahid Siddique advised the students that if you want to be successful in life do everything creatively and distinguish yourself from others. He also highlighted the importance of dreaming big and advised the graduates to be honest with their profession.

In the convocation address, Deans of multiple schools felicitated the graduating students upon successful completion of their degrees, which they labelled as a token of their solid commitment to the pursuit of excellence. They praised the parents of the graduates without whose support, sacrifices, and prayers, the students would not have achieved this milestone. The Deans of schools’ expressed that the greatest strength of UMT is its exceptional faculty and their sense of commitment towards educating the youth. The one and only path to success is endless learning, humbleness, and honesty with no short cuts, they said.

In the last program, there were two chief guests i.e. Dr Shahzad Khan, CEO CCL Pharmaceuticals and Amin Tariq, CEO Amin Tariq Associates. Dr Shahzad Khan shared stories of his life with the graduates so they could understand the pathway of life. He was honoured to say that he has been an alumnus of ILM College in 1996. He told that his company got the title of the fastest growing company in very short time span and proudly said that CCL is the 2nd largest exporter.

He said that he feels content by giving back to the society. Mr Amin Tariq addressed the students and said that his is just the beginning of your career and you are going to have much more learning the future. He advised them to do what they love and never stop learning. At the end of the ceremony, Registrar UMT Saleem Atta presented souvenirs to the chief guests of the event.

Lahore, February 18, 2022 (PPI-OT):University of Management and Technology (UMT) held its 21st Convocation 2022 at the UMT Greens on February 18 and 19. The convocation was attended by Governor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar, President ILM/UMT Ibrahim Hasan Murad, Vice-Chairman UMT/ILM Trust Farooq Salman Murad, Rector UMT Dr. Asif Raza, DG UMT Abid Sherwani, Registrar UMT Saleem Atta, Head Examination Yousaf Jameel along with other esteemed guests. Total 2311 graduates were given degrees in various disciplines on this occasion. According to the details 1458 Bachelors, 202 Masters, 634 MS/MPhil, and 17 PhD degrees were conferred.

Furthermore, 30 Patron Gold Medals, 32 Rector Silver Medals, 14 Rector Academic Excellence Award Gold Medals, 13 Certificates of Excellence, 10 Research Publication Awards for MS/MPhil students, 2 Dr. Hasan Sohaib Murad Medal Awards (Gold) for PhD graduates along with cash prize of rupees 100,000 each, 2 Khurram Murad Medal Awards (Gold) along with cash prize of rupees 50,000 each for MBA graduates, 2 Mubarak un Nisa Medal Awards along with cash prize of rupees 50,000 each to BBA graduates, 2 Dr. Muhammad Ahmed Medal Awards along with cash prize of rupees 25,000 each to the graduates of Social Sciences, 1 Fast Excellence Award along with cash prize of rupees 100,000 to BSEE graduate, 2 Certificates of Appreciation, 19 Rector Awards for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, 6 Extra-curricular Gold Medals, 11 Extra-curricular Certificates, and 2 Alumni Awards were also given away on the convocation.

The first day of the convocation started off with a special opening ceremony and the participants of Dr Hasan Murad School of Management (HSM), Institute of Aviation Sciences (IAS), School of Commerce and Accountancy (SCA), School of Professional Advancement (SPA), School of Science (SSC), and School of Systems and Technology (SST) were awarded degrees.

Rector UMT Dr Asif Raza gave a welcome note where he offered his genuine appreciation to the presence of Governor Punjab, Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar, and said that he is a source of inspiration for the graduating students, their parents, and the entire UMT family. Addressing the attendees of the convocation, he admired the graduates on the accomplishment of completing their respective degrees and proclaimed that their presence has added colour and value to the ceremony.

Dr Asif Raza shared that UMT has accomplished different milestones throughout a specific timeframe. He also treasured the passion and commitment of the faculty and staff in assisting UMT to maintain its stature as a prominent premier general research university in the country. Rector UMT urged the participants to strive for higher goals in life and advised them to transform into superb professionals and credible human beings.

Vice-Chairman UMT Farooq Salman Murad congratulated the graduates and advised them that as you start a new phase of your life you need to become responsible citizens of the society and leave a mark on human history with your ambitious behaviour and aligned vision. He further stated that we should be grateful to Allah Almighty for our accomplishments, as we only get opportunities for success and growth when we are thankful. Farooq Murad advised the students to believe in themselves, make themselves a brand, and always have a growth mindset.

Chaudhary Mohammad Sarwar, Governor of Punjab congratulated the graduates for achieving this great milestone and making their parents and teachers proud. He highly praised Ibrahim Hasan Murad for his tremendous efforts, hard work, and dedication in making UMT reach the skyline of success and said that he is proud that UMT is functioning on the vision of Dr. Hasan Sohaib Murad (Shaheed). Appreciating the parents, he said that mothers and fathers play a significant role in the grooming and success of children and children need to respect them to be fruitful in this life and the hereafter. He shared his personal experiences of how he overcame challenges and achieved his goals, one after another.

Chaudhary Mohammad Sarwar said that it is vital to recognize that there will be failures in every journey and admit that there will be difficulties, but we always learn something from our mistakes. He also highlighted the importance of passion, commitment, and consistency while achieving goals. He shared that his motto in life is “nothing is impossible”. At the end of the ceremony, President UMT Ibrahim Hasan Murad presented a souvenir to Governor Punjab, Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar.
