Sindh University and NDMA Forge Partnership to Strengthen Disaster Management

Jamshoro: In a significant move to enhance disaster resilience, the Sindh University Lad Campus in Badin and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding. This collaboration aims to fortify disaster management efforts, focusing on the sharing of knowledge and the development of advanced disaster response techniques.

According to University of Sindh, the agreement, signed by Professor Dr. Khalilur Rehman Khombati, Pro Vice Chancellor of Sindh University Lad Campus, and M. Tanveer Pracha, Director General of the National Institute of Disaster Management, seeks to bolster the management of both natural and man-made disasters. The partners will work on enhancing coordination and building institutional and technical capacities to better protect human lives and property.

The collaboration will include the exchange of information on past disasters, the development of early warning systems, and the exploration of innovative approaches through a shared platform. The initiative also encompasses training for experts, professors, scientists, and other personnel in disaster management through workshops, conferences, and seminars.

Furthermore, the agreement facilitates cooperation on scientific research and practical surveys related to disaster management and climate change adaptation. It also plans to use advanced technologies such as remote sensing and geographic information system mapping to improve emergency responses to various disasters, including floods, earthquakes, and cyclones.

Following the agreement, the University of Sindh has also established the Disaster Risk Reduction Society, with Dr. Muhammad Tufail Chandio appointed as its President, among other appointments to the society. This new body is expected to play a crucial role in implementing the objectives of the Memorandum of Understanding.
