Sindh Teachers Achieve Milestone with Pakistan’s First Teaching License Test

Karachi, The Sindh government has proudly announced that 646 teachers have passed Pakistan’s inaugural Teaching License Test, a significant advancement in professionalizing the teaching sector and improving education quality in the region.

According to The Aga Khan University, which played a pivotal role in the development and implementation of the Sindh Teaching License Policy 2023, the test was conducted on January 28, 2024, and was a major stride towards enhancing the teaching standards in Sindh. This achievement is expected to lead to better learning outcomes for students. Out of 4,000 participants, which included educators from government and private schools, 646 distinguished themselves by meeting the criteria set forth by the new licensing policy.

This successful test is the result of a comprehensive process initiated in 2017, involving the Sindh Teachers Education Development Authority (STEDA) and continued through significant policy dialogues and the release of a White Paper in 2022, in collaboration with educational partners Durbeen and STEDA.

The test follows the Sindh Government’s endorsement of the policy in May 2023 and exemplifies the commitment of AKU-IED and its partners to the ongoing professional development of teachers. This licensing test is seen as an essential tool for validating the qualifications and capabilities of teachers, which will greatly benefit the future educational landscape in Sindh.

Dr. Farid Panjwani, Dean of AKU-IED, commended the successful teachers for their commitment to quality education and emphasized the broader impact of the teaching license, asserting that while it directly benefits teachers’ professional status, the ultimate beneficiaries are the children who receive a higher standard of education. The Institute reaffirms its dedication to fostering initiatives that promote teacher excellence and elevate educational quality across Pakistan.
