Lahore: The Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Department of Sindh, Muhammad Ali Malkani, visited the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) in Lahore to explore collaborative opportunities for research, training, and knowledge exchange. The visit aims to develop human resources in the Livestock and Fisheries Departments of Sindh.
According to University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Minister Malkani, accompanied by Secretary Dr. Kazim Hussain Jatoi and Director General Dr. Nazeer Hussain Kalhoro, met with Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Masood Rabbani and senior faculty members of UVAS. During the meeting, the minister sought technical inputs from UVAS experts on institution best practices, advanced research, and animal health systems. The discussions also focused on biotechnology applications, vaccine production, and local breed improvement, with an emphasis on potential collaboration areas.
Minister Malkani expressed a keen interest in collaborating with UVAS to enhance the skills and capacity of the Livestock and Fisheries Department staff through training programs. He also highlighted the university's role in providing quality education and research facilities, which could benefit the livestock farming community in Sindh. Furthermore, he proposed future admissions for talented students from Sindh into UVAS's Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree program.
Prof. Dr. Masood Rabbani emphasized the importance of training livestock professionals in animal health, research, and production to equip them with modern techniques and skills. He reiterated UVAS's willingness to collaborate with Sindh's Livestock and Fisheries Department for professional training, local breed improvement, and climate-smart farming initiatives. He also briefed the delegation on UVAS's ongoing projects and the Punjab Government's initiatives in the livestock sector.
Dr. Nazeer Hussain Kalhoro suggested organizing refresher courses in extension education to address contemporary livestock challenges. The meeting concluded with a mutual understanding to foster future collaborations for the development of Sindh's livestock and fisheries sectors.
