Sindh High Court Seeks Compliance on Karachi Educational Reforms

Karachi: The Sindh High Court, led by Justices Salahuddin Panhwar and Omer Siyal, has called for a firm commitment to educational reform within the Karachi Intermediate Board. The court’s directive came during a hearing on a petition advocating for the implementation of recommended changes following significant examination mismanagement.

According to Pasban Democratic Party, the petition, filed by Usaid Ahmed and represented by Advocate Khurram Lakhani, detailed numerous challenges faced by students during the 2022-23 academic year. These issues included a textbook shortage, disorganized examination processes, and discrepancies in the syllabus and examination content that left many students underprepared and resulted in poor academic outcomes.

The fact-finding committee, led by Dr. Saroosh H. Lodhi, Vice Chancellor of NED University, after thorough investigation, provided several recommendations to rectify these issues. Despite approval from the then-caretaker Chief Minister, these measures were not enacted, prompting legal action to ensure their implementation.

The court has requested the defendants to submit an undertaking by September 9 to fulfill these recommendations, addressing critical flaws in exam management and syllabus distribution that have adversely affected student performance. This move underscores a significant step towards improving the educational standards and accountability within Karachi’s schooling system.
