SHERANI: Sherani's voter registration rate is significantly lower than the national average, standing at 25% of its estimated 2025 population, according to newly released district-wise electoral roll statistics. This rate is 29 percentage points below the national voter registration ratio of 54%.
According to Free and Fair Election Network, these figures were derived from data released by the Election Commission of Pakistan on December 30, 2025, and cross-referenced with population estimates from the 2023 Digital Census. Sherani, with an estimated 2025 population of 206,691, has 51,004 registered voters. Of these, 28,940 are males, representing 56.7% of the electorate, while 22,064 are females, or 43.3%. This places Sherani 131st nationally by population size and 129th by voter registration rate.
The primary reason for Sherani's low voter registration is a significant gender gap. Female voters make up only 43.3% of the registered electorate, with registration rates of 24% for females compared to 25% for males. This gap is due to restricted mobility, lower female CNIC penetration, and social constraints on civic participation. Unlike the census enumeration effect observed in larger cities, Sherani's lower registration rate is attributed to genuine non-registration among women.
Efforts such as the deployment of mobile NADRA units and increased outreach by the Election Commission of Pakistan through community networks are deemed essential to address this gender disparity and improve voter registration rates ahead of the next general elections.
