Session on Bridging Academia and Industry Highlights Collaboration at Arts Council Event

Karachi: The Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi’s School of Visual and Performing Arts recently hosted a session, “The Bridging of Academia and Industry,” aimed at fostering collaboration between educational institutions and the art industry. The event saw prominent figures, including President Arts Council Muhammad Ahmed Shah and renowned artists like R.M. Naeem and Sadaf Naeem, share insights on the evolving relationship between academic instruction and industry practice.

Moderated by artist Muhammad Zeeshan, the session featured a discussion led by R.M. Naeem, who addressed the cultural perceptions of artists and the importance of broadening perspectives in the art business. Naeem urged attendees to focus on the intrinsic value of their work rather than its commercial aspects, emphasizing the significance of mentorship and cultural activities in nurturing young talent.

Artist Sadaf Naeem highlighted the critical achievement of connecting teachers and students with industry professionals, noting the increasing opportunities available to the younger generation. She stressed the importance of maintaining strong ties with educators and concentrating on personal growth rather than competition.

Educationist Saulat Ajmal underscored the perpetual nature of learning in the arts, advocating for the promotion of art and recognizing the pivotal roles played by seasoned artists like Naeem and Zeeshan in bridging academia and the industry. Ajmal called for a greater presence of dedicated educators to support the burgeoning art sector.

The session, held at the Haseena Moin Hall, exemplified the Arts Council’s commitment to enhancing cultural activities and supporting artistic development in Karachi.
