NUMS Marks Kashmir Black Day, Reaffirms Support for Kashmiri People

Islamabad: The National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) observed Kashmir Black Day on Monday, marking the annual international remembrance of the occupation of Jammu and Kashmir by India on October 27, 1947. The event highlighted the ongoing struggle and human rights violations faced by the Kashmiri people since the occupation.

The observance, organized by the Department of Student Affairs in collaboration with the NUMS Debating Club, saw participation from faculty, staff, and students. The participants expressed solidarity with the Kashmiri people and reaffirmed their commitment to their right to self-determination.

The event commenced with a recitation from the Holy Quran and the National Anthem. Members of the NUMS Debating Club presented speeches and presentations, emphasizing the historical significance of the day and the continuous challenges faced by Kashmiris, including curfews and the denial of basic human rights.

Speakers at the event highlighted the excessive use of force by Indian forces and provided historical and international perspectives on the Kashmir issue. The program included TED-style talks by students, offering insights into the complex dynamics of the region.

Brig Imran Hussain, (Retd), Director Student Affairs, praised the efforts of the organizers and participants in his closing remarks, stressing the importance of observing Kashmir Black Day and supporting the Kashmiri cause.

The event concluded with a Solidarity Walk, where attendees carried banners showing unity with the Kashmiri people and condemning the ongoing situation in the region.
