Seminar on Kashmir Highlights Continued Struggles and Hopes

Karachi: Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, in collaboration with the Human Rights Council of Pakistan, organized a seminar titled “Kashmir ki Beti” at the Haseena Moin Hall, underscoring solidarity with the people of Kashmir. The event featured speeches by distinguished guests, including former Minister of Social Welfare and Women’s Affairs of the Azad Government of Jammu and Kashmir, Farzana Yaqoob, and other prominent figures. The event was moderated by Raheela Firdous.

According to a statement by Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, Farzana Yaqoob emphasized the ongoing hope among Kashmiris, asserting that they do not seek sympathy but rather a practical approach. She highlighted the need for Azad Kashmir to raise its voice regarding the issue of occupied Kashmir, portraying the region as a lifeline for Pakistan and urging the youth to play an active role in the struggle for freedom.

Bashir Sadozai, a renowned author and columnist, spoke about decades of oppression faced by women in Kashmir and the region’s significant loss of life. He described the dire conditions in Kashmir, where Indian soldiers have been accused of committing heinous acts, yet Kashmiri women continue to advocate for their rights.

Other speakers, including Sardar Nazakat and Sardar Asif Khan Sadozai, called for international attention on Kashmir, emphasizing the sacrifices made by Kashmiri mothers and daughters. They urged for a free referendum in the region and stressed the importance of advancing intellectual discourse on Kashmir to the global stage.

Dr. Sabir Abo Maryam and Dr. Khalida Ghous highlighted the necessity of resistance in resolving the Kashmir issue and the need to address growing international apathy towards the suffering of Kashmiri women. They drew parallels between the struggles in Kashmir and Palestine, pointing out the lack of international political support for Kashmir’s freedom.
