Rs. 170 Million Scholarships Sanctioned for Students

Lahore: In a landmark decision, the University of the Punjab’s (PU) Senate, led by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Muhammad Ali, has sanctioned a significant Rs. 170 million in scholarships for students. This announcement was made during the 361st meeting of the PU Senate, held at the Old Campus Senate Hall. The session, attended by deans, professors, and departmental representatives, underscored the institution’s commitment to supporting its student body.

The Vice Chancellor emphasized that the university’s strategic plan aims to enhance academic, financial, and administrative frameworks. Prof Dr. Muhammad Ali assured that no student would have to abandon their education due to financial constraints, as PU has committed to providing a Rs. 219,000 subsidy per student this year. Additionally, hostel residents will receive a Rs. 150,000 subsidy, marking an increase in financial support.

The Senate meeting also outlined the establishment of an endowment fund designed to bolster research, pension, and development initiatives. Highlighting effective resource management, it was revealed that the university saved Rs. 240 million in electricity costs over the past eight months. The gathering concluded with the approval of the Academic Council’s recommendations and budgets for the fiscal years 2024-25 and 2025-26, setting a robust financial trajectory for the university.
