Karachi: Glowing tributes were paid to Dr. Haroon Ahmed, a prominent psychiatrist and founding trustee of the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT), at a memorial gathering held over the weekend. Dr. Haroon passed away last month following a prolonged illness.
The event was attended by individuals from various sectors, including medical professionals, politicians, parliament members, and human rights advocates. Notable attendees included former Senate Chairman Senator Raza Rabbani, journalist Husain Naqi, columnist Ghazi Salahuddin, Dr. Syed Ali Wasif from the Pakistan Psychiatric Society, and Prof. Anwar Naqvi of SIUT.
SIUT’s founder and surgeon, Dr. Adib Rizvi, also paid his respects. Ms. Anis Haroon, the late psychiatrist’s wife, addressed the gathering as well.
Speakers highlighted Dr. Haroon’s dedication to the welfare of marginalized and deprived communities. They described him as a compassionate physician and a committed human rights advocate. His role in advocating for better education and student rights in Pakistan’s early years was underscored.
