Hyderabad Clerics Invoke Imam Hussain’s Legacy in Call for Democracy and Justice

Hyderabad: At the Karbala Martyrs Conferences organized by Anjuman Parwana Mustafa, religious leaders, including Syedna Sakhi Abdul Wahab Shah Jilani of Ghulam Hussain Hidayatullah Higher Secondary School Road, Pakka Qila, invoked the legacy of Imam Hussain to advocate for democracy and justice in Pakistan. The speakers denounced the suppression of dissent and the rising cost of living as contrary to the teachings of Islam.

According to Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan, the conference highlighted the enduring influence of Imam Hussain’s sacrifice at Karbala, which was portrayed as a model of righteousness against oppression. Syedna Jilani emphasized that the spirit of Hussainism should guide efforts to challenge corrupt and oppressive rule, likening contemporary political leaders to historical figures of tyranny. He criticized the current administration for what he described as economic burdens placed on the public through increased prices for essential utilities and fuel, and for suppressing democratic voices and imprisoning dissenters.

The conference also touched on broader themes of moral decay attributed to Western influences, describing them as attempts to distort Islamic values. The speakers called upon the Pakistani populace to resist these influences and uphold Islamic principles by actively participating in the political process and striving for systemic change.

The call to action was framed as a continuation of Imam Hussain’s struggle, with leaders urging attendees to dedicate themselves to establishing a fair system that reflects Islamic governance and justice. The promise was a vision of renewal and hope, suggesting that adherence to Hussain’s example could lead to an end to the current system of oppression and transform Pakistan into a stronghold of Islamic values.
