Lahore: Punjab University has kicked off a tree plantation drive aimed at fostering a ‘Green Pakistan’ and enhancing the campus’s green spaces. The initiative, led by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Khalid Mahmood, began with the planting of fruit trees near gate number 3 and in the lawn of the PU Club.
According to University of the Punjab, the ceremony was attended by key university figures, including the Chairperson of the Department of Gender Studies Dr. Raa’na Malik and the Chairman of the PU Club Dr. Munawar Iqbal, alongside faculty members and other participants. During his address, Vice Chancellor Dr. Mahmood highlighted the importance of tree planting as a means to restore the country’s natural beauty and promote sustainable development. He emphasized the critical role of trees in reducing pollution and conserving natural resources, which contribute to a healthier environment.
Dr. Mahmood also called on the university’s teachers and students to actively participate in the initiative by planting trees in their surroundings and taking responsibility for their care, underlining the impact of such actions on future generations.
