University of the Punjab to Host International Phycological Workshop in November 2024

Lahore: The University of the Punjab is set to host a one-week International Phycological Training Workshop from November 11 to 15, 2024, focusing on the identification of freshwater microalgae and its biotechnological applications. This event marks a significant endeavor in the realm of phycological research, coinciding with the centennial celebrations of the university’s Institute of Botany.

According to University of the Punjab, the workshop aims to provide extensive training on the latest methods and advances in the field of phycology, particularly concerning freshwater microalgae. The workshop is organized by the Phycology Research Laboratory at the Institute of Botany and features a lineup of national and international speakers including Dr. Poong Sze Wan from the Institute of Ocean and Earth Sciences, University Malaysia, and several noted experts from across Pakistan.

The event is designed to cater to both new and seasoned researchers by offering insights into microalgal identification and the utilization of algae as biofactories to convert light energy into valuable biocompounds. The workshop will cover various thematic areas, providing attendees with the knowledge to explore algae’s potential in biotechnology effectively.

Additionally, the university offers free accommodation for ten faculty members and ten students from other cities or provinces of Pakistan to encourage nationwide participation. The registration for the event is open until October 31, 2024, with fees set for students and faculty, and different rates applicable for foreign participants.
