Punjab University Launches Comprehensive Health Services in Lahore

Lahore: Punjab University has significantly expanded its health services with the inauguration of a new Mother & Child Healthcare Centre, a free immunization program, and various mobile health services by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood.

According to University of the Punjab, the ceremony marking the launch of these facilities was attended by notable university officials including PU Chief Medical Officer Dr Muhammad Akram and Head of the Medicine Purchase Committee Health Center Prof Dr Zeeshan Danish. The new services are designed to enhance the health care provisions for teachers, employees, and students, particularly those at the New Campus.

Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood detailed the scope of the new health services during his address at the ceremony. He highlighted the introduction of a mobile medical unit described as a mini hospital on wheels, equipped with first aid facilities and an ambulance service for emergency patient transfers. Additionally, a van service will deliver medicines directly to the addresses of university staff and faculty.

In collaboration with the Health Department of the Government of Punjab, the university has also initiated a free immunization and vaccination program for children at the newly established Mother & Child Center. Prof Dr Mahmood announced upcoming services including online doctor appointments and telephone prescription services, emphasizing the university’s commitment to ensuring 100% availability of medicines.

Dr Muhammad Akram referred to the developments as historic for the university’s health facilities, attributing the progress to the leadership of Vice Chancellor Mahmood. He noted that despite limited resources, the health center is poised to offer top-tier public health facilities.

Prof Dr Zeeshan Danish commended the dedicated team of PU professionals who have worked tirelessly to equip the health center with modern facilities and resources, promising further enhancements in the near future.
