Islamabad: The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is set to launch its Diploma in Sports Medicine program, a two-year, part-time distance learning initiative aimed at enhancing the expertise of medical practitioners globally in sports medicine. Starting on October 1, 2024, the program seeks to deepen knowledge and foster best practices in this specialized medical field.
According to Pakistan Olympic Association, the diploma program is structured in two parts, with the first concluding with an examination in April 2025 and the second starting in October 2025, culminating in a mandatory workshop and examination between March and May 2026. Graduation is scheduled for Autumn 2026. Comprehensive details are available on the official website of the program provider, sportsoracle.
The curriculum is designed to equip students with scientific insights into sports medicine, practical engagement strategies, and research methodologies pertinent to the field. The IOC, through Olympic Solidarity, will cover course registration fees for approved candidates and may also provide flight tickets on a case-by-case basis, although other expenses must be borne by the participants or their sponsors.
Eligibility for the program requires a medical degree from a recognized university and eligibility for professional registration as a medical practitioner. Instruction will be in English, with proficiency proven by tests such as TOEFL or IELTS, among other recognized qualifications. The program emphasizes the necessity of competent English language skills, given its global participant base.
Applicants interested in enrolling must submit their medical degree credentials, an updated CV, passport copy, digital photograph, proof of English proficiency, a cover letter, and an Olympic scholarship application by September 11, 2024.
