KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Karachi General Secretary Arslan Khalid has condemned the government's decision to adjust petroleum prices on a daily basis, describing it as economic oppression against ordinary citizens. According to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Khalid termed the policy a tactic to exploit the impoverished population and an acknowledgment of the government's financial failure.
Criticizing the ruling authorities, Khalid claimed that the government's adherence to International Monetary Fund (IMF) policies has exacerbated the plight of the poor. He argued that the imposition of substantial taxes on petrol, amounting to Rs 140, indicates a lack of governance and equates to a new form of extortion.
Khalid expressed that while the general public faces daily financial burdens, the elite continue to benefit from substantial privileges, a situation he described as intolerable. He contrasted the current administration with the previous Imran Khan government, which he characterized as a period of affordable petrol and public relief. Khalid accused the current leaders of maintaining their luxurious lifestyles at the expense of the public, refusing to reduce the petroleum levy and other taxes.
He further asserted that the present government is driven by a specific interest group intent on oppressing the populace. Khalid announced that the people of Karachi will actively resist this economic exploitation, signaling the start of a comprehensive opposition movement.
