PRCS and UN Strengthen Ties to Enhance Humanitarian Efforts in Pakistan

Islamabad, The Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) and the United Nations have reaffirmed their commitment to humanitarian cooperation during a meeting between PRCS Chairman Sardar Shahid Ahmed Laghari and the newly appointed UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, Mohamed Yahya, at the UN office on Monday.

According to Pakistan Red Crescent Society, the meeting focused on enhancing community resilience and improving coordination among UN agencies and PRCS initiatives. Chairman Laghari highlighted the extensive collaboration of PRCS with various international partners like IFRC, ICRC, NorCross, and the German and Turkish Red Crescents, emphasizing the wide-reaching impact of these partnerships on PRCS’s programs.

The discussion also touched on PRCS’s significant role in disaster response and preparedness, healthcare, food security, and other critical areas, showcasing their substantial volunteer network and ongoing projects such as the recovery efforts from the monsoon floods of 2022.

Both parties expressed a strong desire to deepen their collaboration, exploring new opportunities for cooperation, particularly in areas of disaster preparedness, search and rescue operations, and contingency planning. The visit of Mohamed Yahya and UN OCHA Head of Office Carlos Geha to the PRCS National Headquarters was announced, marking a step forward in solidifying this partnership.

The meeting concluded with Chairman Laghari presenting a PRCS book and a commemorative souvenir to Coordinator Yahya, symbolizing the ongoing partnership and shared goals between PRCS and the United Nations in addressing humanitarian challenges.
