Karachi, In a recent statement, Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman Altaf Shakoor called for a judicial reexamination of the case of Pir Pagara Sabghatullah Shah Rashdi, a prominent figure in the Hur Movement, advocating for it to follow the precedent set by the reassessment of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s execution. He highlighted the lack of awareness among Pakistan’s youth about the Hur Movement’s role against British colonialism and urged the government to officially recognize its historical significance.
According to Pasban Democratic Party, Shakoor emphasized the need for greater acknowledgment of the Hur Movement and its leaders, including designating March 20 as a national holiday to commemorate the martyrdom of Soreh Badshah, Pir Pagara Sabghatullah Shah Rashdi. He expressed concern over the erasure of such significant historical figures from the national consciousness and called on the Pakistani government to seek information from the UK about Rashdi’s final resting place.
Shakoor’s statement also touched on broader issues of national sovereignty and governance, critiquing Pakistan’s economic dependencies and the influence of international financial institutions like the IMF and World Bank. He compared the current state of governance to colonial rule, emphasizing the need for self-reliance and a reinvigorated sense of national pride.
The PDP chairman proposed initiatives to educate the public about Pakistan’s resistance heroes, suggesting the establishment of dedicated academic chairs and research programs. He also urged political action, particularly from the Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F), to advocate for recognition of Rashdi’s contributions and the establishment of a holiday in his honor.
