PCB Unveils New Selection Committee with Four Former Test Cricketers

Lahore, The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has introduced a revamped seven-member selection committee for the national men’s cricket team, featuring a notable inclusion of four former Test cricketers. This announcement was made by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi during a press briefing at Gaddafi Stadium, the nucleus of Pakistan cricket.

According to Pakistan Cricket Board, the newly formed selection committee includes ex-Test players Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Yousuf, Abdul Razzaq, and Asad Shafiq, each bringing a wealth of experience from their illustrious careers. They will be joined by the national team’s captain and coach, along with a data analyst dedicated to providing comprehensive statistics and insights to aid the selection process. Notably, the committee operates without a designated chair, emphasizing a collaborative approach where each member wields equal influence.

The roles and backgrounds of the committee members were highlighted: Wahab Riaz, a prominent figure in Pakistan cricket, transitions from his role as the previous selection committee’s chairman. Mohammad Yousuf, known for his coaching stint with the Pakistan Men’s U19 team, brings tactical and developmental expertise. Asad Shafiq and Abdul Razzaq, both respected for their international contributions, complete the quartet, offering their insights into modern cricket dynamics.

Chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed his trust in the committee’s autonomous operation, underscoring his commitment to non-interference and confidence in their professional judgment. This reform is poised to shape the selection process for Pakistan’s men’s cricket, ensuring a blend of analytical rigor and seasoned perspective as the nation competes on the global stage.
