Lahore, In a crucial meeting at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi emphasized the importance of merit in the selection process for the national cricket team. The discussion, which included National Men’s Chief Selector Wahab Riaz, COO PCB Salman Naseer, and Director International PCB Usman Wahla, focused on preparations for the upcoming home T20I series against New Zealand and a fitness camp in Kakul, Abbottabad.
According to Pakistan Cricket Board, the chairman’s directive was clear: assemble a pool of players for the national team and the fitness camp based solely on merit and performance. This comes at a time when the PCB is keen on enhancing the team’s competitiveness on the international stage.
Wahab Riaz, the Chief Selector, contributed to the meeting by presenting an exhaustive report on player performances during the recently concluded HBL PSL 9. The discussion underscored the necessity of acknowledging and rewarding standout performers from the PSL in the national squad.
Chairman Naqvi’s remarks, “A pool of players selected purely on merit and performances will possess the ability to perform well at the highest level,” reflect PCB’s commitment to fostering a transparent and performance-based selection process. The initiative is seen as a step towards ensuring that high performers in domestic leagues have a clear pathway to the national team, reinforcing meritocracy within Pakistan cricket.
