Lahore: Pakistan is set to commence its ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 campaign with a home series against South Africa, starting this Sunday at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The two-Test series marks the first time since the Championship’s inception in 2019 that Pakistan will open a WTC cycle on home soil. The second Test is scheduled to be held in Rawalpindi from October 20 to 24.
Following the Tests, the teams will engage in a series of white-ball matches, featuring three T20 Internationals and three One Day Internationals, spanning from October 28 to November 8.
Historically, Pakistan and South Africa have faced off in 30 Test matches, with South Africa leading with 17 wins compared to Pakistan’s six, while seven games ended in draws. In the context of the World Test Championship, both sides have secured two victories each in their four encounters.
Pakistan captain Shan Masood emphasized the importance of a strong start against the reigning champions, South Africa. He noted the significance of performing well in home conditions and expressed confidence in the squad’s ability to challenge their formidable opponents.
South Africa’s captain, Aiden Markram, expressed enthusiasm about the series, acknowledging the challenges posed by the local conditions. He highlighted the need for adaptability and strategic planning to succeed in the unfamiliar environment.
