Arts Council Pays Tribute to Esteemed Artist Musarrat Mirza

Karachi: Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi’s Fine Art Committee held a tribute ceremony for renowned artist Musarrat Mirza at the Josh Malihabadi Library. The event, attended by numerous artists and art enthusiasts, featured President of the Arts Council, Mohammad Ahmed Shah, as the chief guest. Shah presented a shield to Mirza in recognition of her contributions to the field of art.

Prominent figures, including writer Noorul Huda Shah and artists Mehr Afroze, Noorjehan Bilgrami, and Amra Ali, addressed the gathering. The ceremony was moderated by Nusrat Khwaja, with Chairman of the Fine Art Committee, Farrukh Tanveer Shahab, also in attendance.

Joint Secretary of the Arts Council, Noorul Huda Shah, expressed joy at the recognition of artists and literary figures, emphasizing the importance of art and culture in Sindh. Noorjehan Bilgrami praised Mirza’s work, highlighting its self-defining nature.

Mehr Afroze remarked on the intrinsic energy and silence in Mirza’s paintings, while renowned artist Salima Hashmi, speaking via video link, noted the unique language of Mirza’s art. Dr. Marhab Qasmi spoke about the reflection of Sukkur in Mirza’s paintings.

Curator Amra Ali discussed the complexity of Mirza’s work, citing its connection to light, reflection, and Sufi poetry. Mirza, expressing her gratitude, described the artist’s journey as a continuous search and emphasized the humble nature of being an artist.
