Pakistan Establishes Land Port Authority to Boost Trade and Connectivity

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has signed The Pakistan Land Port Authority Bill, 2025, into law, marking a significant step towards enhancing trade and connectivity in the region. With the President’s endorsement, the bill has officially become an Act of the Parliament.

The newly enacted law facilitates the creation of the Pakistan Land Port Authority, a statutory entity that will oversee the movement of goods and people across the country’s border crossing points. This Authority is designed to act as a central hub for coordinating inter-agency efforts, ensuring the smooth flow of trade and passenger traffic at land ports.

Pakistan now joins its South Asian neighbors, Bangladesh and India, in establishing a dedicated land port authority. The move is expected to strengthen regional trade ties and improve the country’s border management capabilities.

The Authority will work closely with border management agencies to streamline trade processes and improve cross-border connectivity. It will also assist Pakistan in fulfilling its commitments under international agreements and conventions.

This development is seen as a crucial step in bolstering Pakistan’s regional trade integration, improving border efficiency, and fostering economic connections with neighboring nations.
