Pakistan Cricketers Penalized for Code of Conduct Violations

Karachi: Three Pakistani cricketers have been fined for breaching the International Cricket Council’s Code of Conduct during a recent match against South Africa. The sanctions were imposed following incidents that occurred during the tri-nation series in Karachi on Wednesday.

According to a statement by International Cricket Council, pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi was fined 25 percent of his match fee. He was found guilty of violating Article 2.12 of the Code, which deals with inappropriate physical contact during an international match. The incident took place in the 28th over of South Africa’s innings when Afridi deliberately obstructed batter Matthew Breetzke, leading to contact and a heated exchange.

In a separate incident, players Saud Shakeel and Kamran Ghulam were fined 10 percent of their match fees. The two were penalized under Article 2.5 of the Code for celebrating too closely to South African batter Temba Bavuma after his dismissal in the 29th over. This article addresses actions that provoke or disparage a batter upon dismissal.

All three players received one demerit point on their disciplinary records. None of the players had prior offenses in the last 24 months. The players have accepted the imposed sanctions, and no formal hearings will be conducted.

Despite these incidents, Pakistan achieved a notable victory against South Africa, securing a spot in the finals of the Tri-Nation series against New Zealand, scheduled for February 14.
