NUST Hosts Commonwealth Secretary-General and PM’s Youth Programme Chairman to Discuss Innovation and Education

Islamabad: The National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) hosted a high-profile visit from Commonwealth Secretary-General Rt Hon Patricia Scotland KC and Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, Mr. Rana Mashood Ahmed Khan, focusing on innovation, academic excellence, and youth empowerment in Pakistan’s educational sector.

According to National University of Sciences and Technology, the delegation was warmly welcomed by NUST Rector Lt Gen (Retd) Engr Javed Mahmood Bukhari, who detailed the university’s achievements and the pivotal role of the National Science and Technology Park (NSTP) in enhancing Pakistan’s educational and technological landscape. The NSTP, noted for being Pakistan’s first such facility, targets eight critical thematic areas including education, health, energy, and smart technologies, presenting significant opportunities for entrepreneurship and investment.

During her visit, Secretary-General Scotland lauded NUST as a beacon of higher education and innovation, stressing the essential role such institutions play in developing human resources, particularly among youth. She also emphasized the Commonwealth’s commitment to education and technological advancement as crucial for equipping future generations with the necessary skills to meet emerging global challenges. Chairman Khan highlighted the government’s efforts towards educational equity across Pakistan.

The visit included an interactive session with NUST faculty and students, followed by a tour of the S and T Park, which underscored the collaborative efforts between NUST, the Commonwealth, and the Pakistani government to foster educational and technological growth.
