Islamabad, The Department of Student Affairs at the National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS), in partnership with the Federal Ombudsperson Secretariat for Protection Against Harassment at Workplace (FOSPAH), hosted a seminar on March 8, 2024, at the PWD Campus to honor International Women’s Day (IWD). The event, attended by over 70 individuals, including esteemed faculty members, students, and staff, emphasized the theme ‘Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress,’ correlating with the Sustainable Development Goal 5 to promote gender equality and empowerment.
According to National University of Medical Sciences, the seminar aimed to shed light on FOSPAH’s role in ensuring harassment-free workplaces and its commitment to upholding a safe environment devoid of abuse and discrimination. Secretary of FOSPAH, Mr. Arif Karim, detailed the organization’s efforts and the legal framework supporting women’s rights, while Law Officer Ms. Maher Jami discussed specific laws concerning women’s harassment and property disputes. The seminar also featured insights from Brigadier (R) Shazia Sarwar about the Anti Sexual Harassment Committee at NUMS, concluding with an interactive Q and A session.
The seminar’s success was marked by the gratitude expressed by Brigadier (R) Muhammad Asif Chattha, the Director of Student Affairs at NUMS, who thanked the speakers and attendees for their engagement and contribution to a meaningful dialogue on women’s empowerment and protection.
