Lahore, The National Incubation Center Lahore (NICL) at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) has launched the Tabeer Project, a significant 18-month capacity-building initiative designed to enhance the capabilities of Business Incubation Centres (BICs) in universities across Punjab. Supported by the U.S. State Department, the project aims to expand the knowledge, skills, and capacities essential for fostering entrepreneurship in the region.
According to Lahore University of Management Sciences, the launch ceremony brought together key figures from the government, higher education, and the startup ecosystem. Notable guests included Mr. Andrew Schofer, Deputy Chief of Mission, US Embassy, Islamabad; Mr. Muhammad Baligh Ur Rehman, Governor of Punjab; Ms. Kritin K. Hawkins, Consul General, Lahore; and other dignitaries from the U.S. Consulate General. LUMS leadership, including Pro Chancellor Mr. Abdul Razak Dawood and Rector Mr. Shahid Hussain, welcomed the guests.
NICL’s Tabeer Project will implement a phased training schedule and on-site workshops at partner BICs, targeting university faculty, BIC management, and students. The training modules will cover various topics, including incubator management and entrepreneurial coaching, culminating in an exchange program to the U.S. for selected BIC representatives.
The ceremony featured insights from Mr. Zaffar, Director of NICL, who likened ‘Tabeer’ to the realization of a dream, reflecting the project’s aspirations for Pakistan’s startups and entrepreneurs. Governor Rehman emphasized the role of educational institutions in nurturing youth innovation, highlighting the critical role of entrepreneurship and startups in a thriving economy. Mr. Dawood, reiterating LUMS’ commitment to advancing education and research, stressed the importance of multilateral projects and collaborations for empowering Pakistan’s youth.
Mr. Schofer discussed Tabeer’s objectives to support Pakistan’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, underlining the project’s alignment with the broader U.S.-Pakistan relationship focused on innovation and economic growth. He expressed the U.S. commitment to investing in Pakistan’s human capital.
The event concluded with the formal handover of the grant by Mr. Schofer to Dr. Jadoon, marking the commencement of this impactful partnership.
