ISLAMABAD: Mushaal Hussein Mullick, the wife of Kashmiri leader Yasin Malik, called for intellectual, legal, and political efforts to address the Kashmir issue.
According to a statement by International Islamic University Islamabad, Mullick spoke at a seminar titled “From Struggle to Unity: Reimagining Kashmir’s Future.” She highlighted the challenges Kashmiris face, including lockdowns, restrictions, and lack of basic facilities, and described these as inhumane actions by India.
Mullick stressed the importance of practical solutions in line with current realities and warned against ineffectual efforts. She accused India of altering regional dynamics through genocide and planned settlements. She noted that Kashmiris have rejected what she called manipulated Indian elections and emphasized the persecution of Kashmiri leaders like Afzal Guru, Maqbool Butt, and Yasin Malik, asserting their struggle will continue.
Ghulam Muhammad Safi, from the Hurriyat Conference, discussed ongoing human rights issues in Kashmir. He decried the use of rape as a weapon and the denial of self-determination rights, urging the United Nations to enforce its Security Council resolutions and called on the international community to address the alleged genocide.
Abdullah Khan of the Pakistan Institute of Conflict and Strategic Studies emphasized Kashmir’s resolution as a fundamental right, urging educational institutions to raise awareness and support Pakistan’s position internationally through rigorous research.
Dr. Manzoor Khan Afridi expressed concern over global indifference, pointing out economic hardship as part of efforts to suppress the Kashmiri struggle.
Dr. Ghufran Ali and Dr. Amna Mehmood underscored the need for research and understanding of the Kashmir issue, advocating for informed global advocacy.
The seminar ended with a call for academic and diplomatic advocacy for Kashmir’s self-determination and highlighted the role of educational institutions in shaping the discourse.
