Karachi, In a significant political development, senior Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leaders Anis Advocate and Raza Haroon, along with their colleagues, have joined the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). This move was formalized after a meeting with PPP’s President and former President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari.
According to Pakistan People’s Party, the former President Asif Ali Zardari welcomed the MQM leaders into the PPP. The meeting focused on the “Charter of Karachi,” a strategic plan aimed at enhancing development, prosperity, peace, and a reconciliatory environment in the city. Former President Zardari expressed confidence that the Charter would significantly impact Karachi’s future, often referred to as the “Shahr-e-Quaid.”
Highlighting PPP’s vision for Karachi, President Zardari remarked that the PPP, with its deep roots in Karachi, is committed to fighting alongside the city’s residents to restore its lost glory. He touched upon the adverse impacts of conflict and division in the city, emphasizing the party’s dedication to overcoming these challenges.
President Zardari also outlined ambitious plans for transforming Karachi into an economic hub akin to Dubai. He envisioned the city attracting global investments and becoming a key player in the international economic landscape, benefiting not only Pakistan but also providing opportunities for investors worldwide due to its strategic location.
The meeting also delved into PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s 10-point agenda, with President Zardari reiterating his commitment to implementing welfare schemes across the country, including Karachi. These schemes are designed to provide relief to citizens from inflation and economic challenges.
This political realignment is seen as a step towards consolidating PPP’s influence in Karachi and aligns with its broader strategy to strengthen its presence in urban Sindh. The inclusion of former MQM leaders is expected to bring new dynamics to the party’s approach to addressing the city’s complex issues.
