Karachi: A rally was held in front of the U.S. embassy in London, where human rights activists demanded the release of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui on compassionate grounds. The demonstrators highlighted Dr. Siddiqui’s deteriorating health and the perceived injustices of her prolonged detention in a U.S. prison.
According to Aafia Movement, the peaceful protest saw participation from a significant number of activists, including many women, who carried banners and placards. Speakers at the rally criticized the United States for its human rights stance, contrasting it with the treatment of Dr. Siddiqui, whom they described as suffering from physical, sexual, and mental abuse over the last two decades.
The activists emphasized the broader context of Dr. Siddiqui’s case, linking it to other instances where individuals were detained without charges in Guantanamo Bay, citing her continued imprisonment as a grave injustice. They called on global human rights advocates to intervene and urged both the U.S. and Pakistani governments to facilitate her immediate release.
Additionally, the rally participants expressed solidarity with the people of Palestine, condemning the actions of the Israeli military in Gaza and calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities there.
