Liaquat Baloch Criticizes US-Pakistan Relations and Warns Prime Minister Sharif

Lahore, Liaquat Baloch, the Acting Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, has issued a stern warning to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif regarding Pakistan’s relationship with the United States, referencing historical grievances and current geopolitical tensions.

According to Jamaat-E-Islami Pakistan, Baloch responded to a letter from US President Joe Biden to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, cautioning against the historical backdrop of Pakistan’s troubled relations with the United States. He highlighted various instances where he perceived the US as having betrayed Pakistan, particularly criticizing US policies towards Pakistan’s nuclear program, involvement in regional politics, and economic pressures exerted through international institutions like the IMF. Baloch pointed out the US’s role in past conflicts such as the East Pakistan crisis in 1971, its double standards in Afghanistan, and its perceived support for Indian hegemony in Kashmir and other regional affairs.

Baloch expressed concern over the potential influence of US communication on Pakistan’s leadership, drawing a parallel with former President Pervez Musharraf’s response to American pressures. He raised suspicions about the recent positive portrayal of Pakistan’s leadership in American media and advised the current administration to prioritize national dignity and self-reliance.

Further delving into domestic issues, Baloch criticized the 2024 elections, calling them a source of public distrust towards the state. He condemned the government’s financial mismanagement, corruption, and the weakening of the judicial system, viewing these as contributing to economic and political instability. Baloch called for unity among Pakistan’s government, opposition, and state institutions to address these challenges cohesively, emphasizing the need for a national consensus to face external pressures and maintain the country’s sovereignty.
