Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Inaugurates Vocational Training Project at University of Haripur

Haripur, The University of Haripur hosted the Honorable Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Justice (Rtd) Syed Arshad Hussain Shah, for the inauguration of the “Vocational Training and Access to Decent Work” project. This initiative is aimed at providing vocational training and work opportunities to marginalized communities, including women domestic workers, transgender individuals, and persons with disabilities in the Hazara Division.

According to The University of Haripur, the project, under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Abdul Majid (Principal Investigator) and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yasir (Sub-awardee), is a significant step towards promoting social inclusion. It aligns with the United Nations’ recognition of access to decent work as a fundamental human right.

The LCF-55 project team conducted extensive training and psychological counseling sessions across Haripur, Abbottabad, and Mansehra districts. These sessions focused on empowering women domestic workers with knowledge of their rights and providing technical skills training to transgender individuals and persons with disabilities to enhance their employability.

Following the training, the project facilitated the establishment of micro-enterprises by participants. Key achievements include the distribution of 30 Handicraft DIY Kits, 30 Decoration DIY Kits, 30 Sewing Machines, and 13 Makeup Kits, benefiting 103 participants. This initiative has led to significant economic upliftment and empowerment, promoting self-sufficiency and entrepreneurship.

The project’s success is attributed to the support of HEC-PAKISTAN, The University of Haripur, and Hazara University. The leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shafeeq Ur Rehman was instrumental in the project’s achievements.

The Honourable Chief Minister, Justice Retired Syed Arshad Hussain Shah, actively participated in the event, distributing kits to participants and inaugurating a new examination building and a tree plantation drive. His involvement underscores the government’s commitment to supporting marginalized communities.
