International Seminar at Fatima Jinnah Medical University Highlights Women’s Role in Medicine

Lahore: An international seminar at Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU) emphasized the significant contributions of women in the medical field. Dr. Sarah Clarke, past President of the Royal College of Physicians, London, and Dr. Sebastian Alexander were featured as chief guests. The event saw participation from numerous esteemed medical professionals and educators who discussed various challenges and achievements associated with women in medicine.

According to Fatima Jinnah Medical University – Lahore, the seminar commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal, Vice Chancellor of FJMU. He outlined the university’s recent accomplishments, such as receiving the Best University Teacher Award and establishing a Telemedicine Department during the COVID-19 pandemic. Prof. Gondal acknowledged the pivotal role played by the university’s faculty and students in these achievements.

The event featured several key presentations, including one by Dr. Clarke, who stressed the importance of women in medicine and encouraged attendees to foster their professional relationships and self-esteem. Dr. Asma Ahmed focused on the unique challenges and opportunities for women in Pakistan’s medical sector. Additionally, lectures covered topics such as women’s healthcare in the UK, physician burnout, and Islamic perspectives on women’s workplace rights.

The seminar concluded with a question and answer session, allowing further engagement on the discussed themes. Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal presented Dr. Clarke with an honorary shield and a university history book as a token of appreciation for her contributions to the field.
