ICC Announces Player of the Month Nominees for August

Karachi: The International Cricket Council (ICC) today unveiled the nominees for the August Player of the Month awards for both men and women, featuring cricketers from Ireland, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies who have exhibited exceptional performances in their recent matches.

According to International Cricket Council, the men’s nominees include South Africa’s spinner Keshav Maharaj, West Indies’ fast bowler Jayden Seales, and Sri Lanka’s all-rounder Dunith Wellalage. Maharaj is recognized for his significant role in the ICC World Test Championship matches against the West Indies, taking 13 wickets across two tests. Seales made his mark with 12 wickets in the same series, propelling him to the top of the ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings. Wellalage was noted for his all-round performance in ODIs against India, contributing both with the bat and the ball.

The women’s category highlights Sri Lanka’s Harshitha Samarawickrama, who has continued her strong form from the Asia Cup into the tour of Ireland, alongside Ireland’s Orla Prendergast and Gaby Lewis. Prendergast stood out in the ODI series against Sri Lanka, while Lewis made a record-breaking 119 in a T20I match, the highest individual score for Ireland in the format.

The ICC Player of the Month awards are determined through a combined voting process involving the ICC Voting Academy and registered fans globally. The academy, consisting of prominent cricket journalists, former players, and broadcasters, holds a 90 percent share of the vote, while fan votes contribute the remaining 10 percent.

The winners of the monthly awards are announced on the ICC’s digital channels, celebrating outstanding performances in international cricket.
