Habib University Hosts Pedagogical Development Week to Elevate Teaching Standards

Karachi: Habib University recently concluded its Pedagogical Development Week 2024, an initiative aimed at enhancing teaching excellence through a series of workshops, seminars, and collaborative sessions. This event underscores the university’s commitment to advancing pedagogical practices and enriching the academic experiences of both faculty and students.

According to Habib University, the week-long event featured a diverse range of activities designed to inspire and recalibrate educational strategies among the faculty. Notable sessions included talks by Dr. Nauman Naqvi on ‘Contemplative Studies’ and Dr. David Wrisley from NYU Abu Dhabi on ‘Trends in Contemporary Global Digital Humanities’. Panel discussions also provided insights into effective student advising and shared personal teaching experiences to foster a supportive academic community.

The event also welcomed new faculty members who are set to bring fresh perspectives and expertise to the university’s vibrant academic environment. Among them are Zahra Sabri, a lecturer in Comparative Humanities, and Tazeen Hussain, an Associate Professor of Practice in Communication and Design, who both praised the university’s liberal arts focus and interdisciplinary approach. Ahsan Mahshood, the new Dean’s Fellow in the Social Development and Policy program, highlighted the unique position of Habib University in promoting liberal arts in Pakistan.

Further enriching the university’s cultural and academic offerings, Nighat Chaudry, a new Professor of Practice in Communication and Design, aims to deepen students’ connection to their cultural heritage through dance. Arsalan Pareyal, also joining as a Professor of Practice, brings his expertise in ethnomusicology and looks forward to contributing to the Center of South Asian Music.

The Pedagogical Development Week not only served as a platform for academic enrichment but also as a community-building exercise, fostering a collegial atmosphere among the faculty. It highlighted Habib University’s ongoing efforts to maintain a dynamic and responsive teaching environment that is attuned to both global trends and local needs.
