Nairobi: In a significant ceremony on Friday, Aga Khan University (AKU) welcomed new students of medical and nursing programs, marking the beginning of their journey towards becoming healthcare professionals. The White Coat and Pinning Ceremony, held at the AKU campus, saw students don pristine white coats and receive pins, symbolizing their commitment to the healthcare profession.
According to The Aga Khan University, “The event was graced by esteemed faculty and guests, including Professor Lukoye Atwoli, Dean of the Medical College of East Africa, and Professor Eunice Ndirangu, Dean of the School of Nursing and Midwifery, East Africa. Both deans emphasized the dedication required in the medical field, highlighting the symbolic significance of the white coat in representing compassion, empathy, and resilience in patient care.”
Dr. Simon Kigondu, President and CEO of the Kenya Medical Association, and Dr. Lister Onsongo, CEO and Registrar of the Nursing Council of Kenya, also addressed the students, underscoring the importance of continuous learning and ethical practice in their upcoming careers. The ceremony not only celebrated the entry of these aspiring professionals into their respective fields but also reinforced the university’s commitment to excellence in healthcare education and service.
