GCU Hosts 28th Parliamentary Style Championship in Lahore

Lahore, The 28th Parliamentary Style Championship at Government College University Lahore showcased 72 teams from the top 45 educational institutions in Pakistan, highlighting the country’s best young orators and their prowess in debate. The event, spanning three days, involved in-depth discussions on significant socio-political topics.

According to Government College University, the contest was organized by the University’s Debating Society (GCUDS) and is recognized as one of the nation’s largest parliamentary style debates. Although GCU students hosted the event, they did not compete for trophies, allowing external participants to vie for the top honors.

The competition culminated with Punjab University winning the ‘Prof Khalid Aftab Trophy’ for the Best English Team, defeating FCC University Lahore in the final round. The proposition debated was “this house proposes glory over a modest, anonymous life.” Individually, Muhammad Ali from Punjab University was awarded the ‘Syed Muhammad Ali Abbass Shield’ for Best English Speaker, while Rai Daud Ali Kharal from the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) secured the title of Best Urdu Speaker.

LUMS also took home the ‘Prof. Hassan Amir Shah Trophy’ for Urdu Parliamentary Debates, marking a significant achievement in both languages. Prof. Dr. Shazia Bashir, Vice Chancellor of GCU, congratulated the winners and emphasized the importance of debates in fostering a tolerant and understanding society through constructive dialogue among youth.
