LAHORE, Forman Christian College (A Chartered University) in Lahore recently concluded a three-day conference on “Recent Trends in Plasma Physics.” The event, held from November 28 to November 30, 2023, was organized in collaboration with the Department of Physics at FCCU, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan, the Pakistan Academy of Sciences, and the Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) at FCCU. The conference brought together global experts to discuss the latest advancements in plasma physics.
According to Forman Christian College, the conference was chaired by Prof. Dr. Hassan Amir Shah, former Vice Chancellor of Government College University (GCU) and the current Dean of Natural Sciences at FCCU. Prof. Dr. Sadia Zaheer, Chairperson of the Physics Department at FCCU, and Prof. Dr. M. Nauman S. Qureshi served as the secretaries of the conference. The inaugural session, which was well-attended, included remarks by the Rector of FCCU, Dr. Jonathan Addleton, on the significance of such academic activities.
The event featured notable international speakers, including Dr. Peter Yoon, Dr. M. Fraz Bashir, Dr. Ioannis Kourakis, Dr. Roberto Bruno, and Dr. Rodrigo Lopez, who presented their research virtually via Zoom. Additionally, prominent speakers from Pakistan presented their work in person. The conference also dedicated its final session to the memory of Prof. Abdus Salam, with Dr. Anis Alam, Dr. G. Murtaza, and Dr. Hassan Shah speaking about his life and contributions to plasma physics research in Pakistan.
The conference aimed to spread awareness among young students about contemporary research trends in theoretical plasma physics, fostering collaborations between active groups in the field, which is crucial for scientific growth within the community. The event was hailed as a significant success in promoting academic and research collaboration in the field of plasma physics.
