Forensic Experts at Dow University Highlight Shortage of Labs and Need for Modern Evidence Collection in Pakistan

Karachi: At a two-day workshop held at Dow University of Health Sciences, forensic experts emphasized the critical shortage of forensic laboratories and professionals in Pakistan, as well as the urgent need to modernize evidence collection and preservation methods to enhance the effectiveness of the criminal justice system.

According to Dow University of Health Sciences, the workshop titled “Forensic Investigation” drew attention to the vital role of forensic evidence, particularly fingerprints, in solving crimes. Experts including Dr. Rana Khan and forensic consultant Afzal Hussain detailed various challenges and inadequacies in the current system, such as the use of inadequate equipment and the mishandling of evidence. The workshop underscored the importance of updating these practices to maintain the integrity of forensic investigations.

Participants, including police officers, lawyers, and medico-legal officers, were trained on modern techniques for collecting and preserving forensic samples, with an emphasis on using proper sealing methods to prevent evidence tampering. The workshop also highlighted the potential of using modern technologies and expanding forensic facilities to better serve the needs of law enforcement and judicial processes in Pakistan.
