Electric Motorcycles Struggle to Find Buyers in Pakistan: Survey Reveals Low Adoption Rates

Karachi: Electric motorcycles have yet to capture the interest of consumers in Pakistan, as only 6% of the population reports owning one, according to a recent survey by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan. The survey highlights a slightly higher adoption rate of 11% in urban regions.

The survey, which involved 1,038 adult men and women from various provinces, aimed to assess the penetration of electric motorcycles nationwide. Results indicate a significant majority, 93%, do not own an electric motorcycle, and 1% of respondents were unsure or chose not to answer.

Conducted between April 11 and April 18, 2025, the survey employed computer-assisted telephone interviewing (CATI) to gather data. The findings, representing both urban and rural areas, feature a margin of error of approximately ±2-3% at a 95% confidence interval.

The study was administered by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan, the local branch of Gallup International, and underscores the challenges faced in promoting electric vehicles within the country’s transport sector.
