Lahore, Dr. Rabia Noor, an Assistant Professor at the School of Creative Arts, The University of Lahore (UOL), is redefining gender roles in the field of journalism with her significant achievements. As a woman in a traditionally male-dominated field, she has garnered international recognition and awards, showcasing her contributions to journalism and academia.
According to The University of Lahore, Dr. Noor, a PhD graduate from the University of Punjab, has been recognized for her outstanding work in journalism. She began her academic journey with a Bachelor of Science Honors in Communication Studies in 2006 and completed her MPhil in Communication Studies between 2007 and 2009.
Dr. Noor’s career highlights include receiving the Jamal Khashoggi Award for Courageous Journalism in 2019, making her the only Asian among five global recipients. Her reporting on women empowerment in Pakistan earned her the Best Journalism Award from Oxfam and the Government of Pakistan in 2017, and she was also honoured with the ILO Award for Best Journalism in 2013.
In addition to her journalistic accolades, Dr. Noor participated in the International Visitors Leadership Programme by the US State Department in 2018, representing Pakistan in various states, including Washington DC, Colorado, Texas, and Florida. Her work has been recognized both nationally and internationally, with contributions to journalism that address a range of critical issues through media.
Dr. Noor’s academic accomplishments extend beyond journalism. She obtained the Dengue Epidemic Training Certificate from the Asian Institute of Technology in Bangkok, Thailand. She also served as a resource person in a workshop organized by the National Press Trust of Pakistan and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and presented papers at international conferences in Oslo, Norway, and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in 2019.
In her professional capacity, Dr. Noor worked as a News Producer and Special Correspondent at ARY News from 2007 to 2010, and as a Reporter at Waqt News in 2009. She has also contributed as a Freelance Blogger for ARY News and led the Infotainment Desk at Daily the Post.
As an educator, Dr. Noor is an assistant professor at UOL, teaching at the University of the Punjab and coordinating the BA Film and TV Programme at AMCAP.
