Karachi, 16 Oct 2023: Dr Asad Mian of The Aga Khan University (AKU) has been recognized with the Ambassador Liaison Award by the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP). The award underscores Dr Mian’s unwavering dedication and reliability in his role as an International Liaison.
A Professor of Emergency Medicine and Director of AKU’s Critical Creative Innovative Thinking (CCIT) Forum, Dr Mian, an MBBS graduate from AKU, has been instrumental in his role as the liaison for Pakistan within the ACEP International Ambassador Programme. At the CCIT Forum, he supervises AKU residents, faculty, and staff, guiding them in innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship. Furthermore, he has been instrumental in the creation of novel courses for his students of Emergency Medicine.
Upon receiving the award, Dr Mian highlighted the collective effort behind the achievement, stating, “I proudly receive this award on behalf of my ‘teams’: CCIT and the Emergency Department. I realize that I am merely standing on the shoulders of giants. None of this is possible without the brilliance of my team members.”
But Dr Mian’s efforts aren’t limited to academia. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, he combined his medical acumen with a passion for physical wellbeing to introduce ‘Zalsa’, a fusion of Zumba and Salsa, at AKU. Committed to his intrapreneurial and entrepreneurial spirit, Dr Mian offers Zalsa lessons to the AKU community at no cost, sharing, “I am doing pro bono work because I am not only enthusiastic about the creative process, but it also gives me an opportunity to engage with my human fellow travellers in a different manner.”
His diverse achievements have not just bolstered AKU’s reputation, but they’ve also significantly influenced the fields of emergency medicine and global healthcare diplomacy. The press release was sourced from The Aga Khan University.
