Dera Bugti Voter Registration Lags Behind National Average by 14 Percentage Points

Dera Bugti: The voter registration rate in Dera Bugti is significantly below the national average, with only 40% of the estimated population registered to vote, compared to the national ratio of 54%. This shortfall is primarily attributed to the disparities in female voter registration.

According to Free and Fair Election Network, these statistics are based on electoral roll data released by the Election Commission of Pakistan. The data is cross-referenced with population estimates derived from the 2023 Digital Census. The estimated population for Dera Bugti in 2025 is approximately 370,570, with the district having 149,138 registered voters. The male registration rate is slightly higher than that of females, with 55.6% of the registered electorate being male and 44.4% female.

Dera Bugti ranks 112th out of 136 districts nationwide by population size and is part of a National Assembly constituency shared with four other districts. In terms of voter registration, the district ranks 114th nationally and 17th among Balochistan's 34 districts.

The gap in voter registration is largely due to a significant gender disparity. Female voters constitute a smaller proportion of the registered electorate, with their registration rate at 40% of the estimated female population, compared to 41% for males. While major cities attribute their below-average ratios to census enumeration effects, Dera Bugti's figures reflect genuine non-registration issues. Women who were counted in the 2023 census are not equally represented on the electoral roll.

The primary barriers to female voter registration include restricted mobility, lower female CNIC (Computerized National Identity Card) penetration, and social constraints on civic participation. The deployment of mobile NADRA units and continued outreach by the Election Commission of Pakistan through community networks in Dera Bugti is deemed essential to address the registration gap ahead of the next general elections.
