Islamabad, Comsats University Islamabad (CUI) welcomed a delegation comprising officials from the Afghan government and universities, along with representatives of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), to discuss collaborative opportunities in various academic fields. The visit aimed to explore joint initiatives in education, engineering, agriculture, IT, banking, and finance.
According to Comsats University Islamabad, the visit began with a campus tour led by Dr. Hammad Omer, Head of the International Office at CUI. The delegation was introduced to the university’s academic departments, research initiatives, and state-of-the-art facilities, including the Junaid Zaidi Library. During a formal meeting, potential areas of collaboration were discussed, with Dr. Omer providing an overview of CUI’s academic structure and international achievements.
Mr. Jehanzeb Khan, Project Director at HEC, outlined the purpose of the visit, highlighting the Afghan government’s need for technical human resources in various sectors. Dr. Rafiullah Ata, Chancellor of the Afghan International Islamic University, expressed Afghanistan’s commitment to investing in youth education and training and requested immediate support from CUI to enhance Afghanistan’s educational infrastructure.
Dr. Omer affirmed CUI’s readiness to support Afghanistan in diverse fields. The meeting concluded with several resolutions, including CUI offering training to Afghan university technical staff, Master and PhD programs for Afghan faculty, student exchange programs, and short-term teaching visits by CUI faculty to Afghan universities. Additionally, CUI committed to providing online teaching facilities, involving Afghan faculty in CUI’s journal editorial boards, assisting Afghan scholars in research writing, and identifying collaborative research areas.
This meeting marks a significant step towards strengthening educational ties between Pakistan and Afghanistan, aiming to enhance the academic landscape and research capabilities in Afghanistan.
