Karachi: In a recent demonstration at FMC Carswell jail in Texas, USA, members of the civil society, including notable figures such as Imam Nasir Hirani, Yaqoob Ira, and Farheen Siddiqui, gathered to protest peacefully for the release of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, who has been incarcerated for over two decades. The protesters called for her immediate release and the closure of the facility, criticizing its conditions and the treatment of inmates.
According to Aafia Movement, the speakers at the protest emphasized the lack of broader Muslim community support for Dr. Siddiqui’s cause, despite her long imprisonment and her standing as a “sister in Islam.” They highlighted the ongoing clemency campaign for Dr. Siddiqui, urging all supporters of peace to participate and appeal directly to the U.S. president for her release. The movement also welcomed the Pakistani government’s decision to send a delegation to the U.S. to negotiate her release with American officials.
