Karachi: The General Secretary of the Pasban Democratic Party (PDP), Iqbal Hashmi, has expressed strong support for the new metropolitan government system proposed under the twenty-seventh amendment, highlighting it as a significant step towards addressing urban challenges in Karachi and other major cities. This system, aimed at enhancing governance through a mega-city framework, is seen as a pivotal change that could transform urban management and quality of life for millions.
According to Pasban Democratic Party, this reform effort, which modifies Article 140-A of the party’s constitution to establish a metropolitan system, aligns with their long-standing demand and represents a major victory for their policy agenda. Hashmi noted the critical need for cooperation among all political parties, including the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and MQM Pakistan, to ensure the successful implementation of this amendment. He stressed that the new system should operate with complete transparency and be devoid of political influence to effectively tackle the pressing issues facing Karachi’s rapidly growing population.
The PDP anticipates that this overhaul will not only resolve infrastructural and civic problems but also pave the way for a more efficient and resourceful city governance. Hashmi called for adequate training and resources for public representatives to empower them to meet the needs of the city’s residents effectively.
