Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari urges the top judiciary for an immediate hearing of Presidential Reference about the judicial assassination of country’s first elected Prime Minister, Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto

Karachi, January 05, 2023 (PPI-OT): Chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has urged the top judiciary for an immediate hearing of the Presidential Reference pending since last 12 years about the judicial assassination of the country’s first elected Prime Minister, Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, saying that if even the founder of the constitution and democracy cannot get justice, then who will get justice in the country?

He has also urged to all the democratic forces of the country that in order to prevent the continuation of crises arising one after the other and to make the country prosperous, it is inevitable that all the parties should form a code of conduct.

Addressing a press conference at Media Cell Bilawal House after the meeting of the Central Executive Committee held on the occasion of the 95th birth anniversary of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, the founding chairman of Pakistan People’s Party, Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that he appeals to the government and the federal law minister that there should be justice in the Presidential Reference, which has been pending in the court for 12 years.

“If you don’t want to give justice to the Quaid-e-Awam, lock the courts and tell the people not to come to us for the justice,” he added. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that the CEC meeting has formed a committee which will communicate with all the democratic forces to formulate a code of conduct, adding that a code of conduct within the framework of which political parties should conduct election campaigns and play a role in parliament.

Chairman PPP said that the Constitution of 1973 is the trust of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, for the restoration of which Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto struggled throughout her life, while President Asif Ali Zardari restored the Constitution in its original form through the 18th Amendment and NFC Award.

He announced that PPP will celebrate the current year as the Golden Jubilee of 1973 Constitution. “Events will be organized across the country in this regard, to make the youth aware of democracy and the struggle for it”, he said.

Chairman PPP said that during the meeting, he praised the Central Executive Committee members, whose decisions taken during the meeting held in Lahore last year resulted in a successful long march and ousting the selected regime from the country. He termed the selected government as a big conspiracy against the 18th Amendment as well as the democracy and said that one of the objectives of long march was that the institutions should work within their limits.

“For the former army chief to admit wrongdoing and say that our institution will not interfere in future politics is a good thing,” he added. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that there is a danger of polarization in the country, politics of hatred and division is being promoted. The politics of “my way or the highway” or “if I am not playing, then I will not let anyone play” is being promoted. “This approach is a threat to politics, society and democracy,” he warned.

Foreign Minister said, “Our policy regarding terrorism is clear that terrorists and extremists are enemies of Pakistan, humanity and our religion of Islam.” He further said that he is strongly opposed to Imran Khan’s policy of appeasing terrorists, who is the front man of terrorists.

He pointed out that Imran Khan took such steps during his rule which are against national security. He first released the perpetrators of the APS tragedy and sent them out of the country, then the terrorists imprisoned in Afghanistan’s jails were also invited to stay in Pakistan.

“As a result of Imran Khan’s actions, the country is facing terrorism again today. We have faced extremists and terrorists before, threats are in place but I call them terrorists, I don’t consider them as human beings.” he said.

Chairman PPP said that during the meeting of the CEC, questions were also raised regarding the economic situation and in this regard, a committee has been formed under Naveed Qamar, which will, after a homework, raise these questions before the Finance Minister. “They will come up with solutions regarding the economy,” he added.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that PPP has always had a stand that elections should be held on time, if anyone has any misunderstanding of delaying the election that should be corrected. “Local government elections or general elections should be held on time, and PPP will not support delay in election,” he added.

In response to a question, he said that PPP want to work together with MQM following the constitution and law. He said that despite not including such conditions in the agreement, Sindh government have provided funds to its assembly members from the provincial budget. He further said that no one should expect PPP to take illegal, unconstitutional and undemocratic decision.

In response to a question asked by a journalist, the PPP chairman said that the establishment has announced that they are neutral, we should welcome this announcement. We are living through a transitory era, 70 years of mistakes cannot be corrected in a minute.

In response to another question, he said that Chaudhary Pervaiz Elahi will have to take a vote of confidence. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister’s non-participation in the funerals of police and security personnel martyred in terrorism is condemnable.
