Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh praises cyclists’ performance in Independence Day competition

Lahore, August 14, 2021 (PPI-OT):Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh said that Sports Board Punjab is organizing Independence Day sports competitions with an aim to trace fresh talented male and female players of all games; he expressed these views while talking to media at the prize distribution ceremony of male and female Independence Day cycling competitions held under the banner of Sports Board Punjab (SBP) at SBP Cycling Velodrome here on Friday.

Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh, who was the chief guest on this occasion, distributed prizes among the top performers. He was also introduced to all the players and officials prior to the competitions.

Director Sports Hafeez Bhatti, Deputy Director Chand Perveen, Assistant Director Raees ur Rehman and other officials were also present on this occasion. Waqar Ali was the organizing secretary of the event.

As many as 12 boys and the same number of girls took part in 1-km Team Sprint and Individual events of cycling competitions. Special cash prize of Rs 5000 was given to female cyclist Aroob Shahab.

Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh said that Sports Board Punjab in the shape of Independence Day sports competitions is providing a suitable platform to emerging athletes of the province to display their talent. “All the coaches and team managements have been asked to compile the data and profiles of talented players so that Sports Board Punjab can further train them for future competitive sports events”.

Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh distributes prizes among the top performers of Independence Day athletics competition

Lahore, August 14, 2021 (PPI-OT):Sports Board Punjab (SBP) conducted male and female athletics competitions as part of Independence Day celebrations at Punjab Stadium here on Thursday evening. Dozens of boys and girls took part in athletics competitions.

Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh graced the occasion as chief guest. He was also introduced to all the players and officials of participating players on this occasion. Later, Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh distributed prizes among the top performers.

Director Sports Hafeez Bhatti, Deputy Director Chand Perveen, Salman Iqbal Butt and other top officials were also present on this occasion.

Talking on this occasion, Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh said the competitive sports events have enhanced the worth of Independence Day of the country. “Our platform is available for potential youngsters. We will extend all facilities to budding athletes of the province.”

Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh informed that Sports Board Punjab is going to organize a sports championship in Sept/Oct to provide potential youngsters a suitable opportunity to express their sports skills. “Arshad Nadeem demonstrated excellent performance in the Tokyo Olympics. He is a true ideal of the young generation,” he added.

Secretary Youth Affairs and Sports Punjab Fuad Hashim Rabbani and DG Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh distribute prizes on Independence Day sports events 

Lahore, August 14, 2021 (PPI-OT):Youth Affairs and Sports Department Punjab and Sports Board Punjab organized football and male and female hockey events on the eve of Independence Day here on Saturday. Secretary Youth Affairs and Sports Punjab Fuad Hashim Rabbani and Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh were the guests of honour on this occasion. They distributed prizes among the top performers at both the events.

Secretary Youth Affairs and Sports Punjab Fuad Hashim Rabbani cut a cake to celebrate the Independence Day of the country at National Hockey Stadium. Director Sports Hafeez Bhatti, Deputy Director Chand Perveen, Assistant Director Raees ur Rehman, administrator Nishtar Park Sports Complex Gymnasium Hall Mustafa Shah, Tariq Wattoo, administrator National Hockey Stadium Malik Nasir and a large number of sports enthusiasts were also present on this occasion.

Talking to media, Secretary Youth Affairs and Sports Punjab Fuad Hashim Rabbani said in the wake of growing coronavirus pandemic, we have to curtail the indoor Independence Day sports events as per the directions of Punjab govt. “We are planning to organize a Football League of top clubs in the near future. Besides this a Women Football event is also part of our planning”.

Secretary Youth Affairs and Sports Punjab Fuad Hashim Rabbani said that we have sufficient budget for sports activities. “We are also coordinating with HEC, School and College Education authorities to finalise details of our Sports Calendar events. “Punjab Sports Department is also taking effective measures for the welfare of sports persons and officials under the Sports Endowment Fund.”

Talking to media at National Hockey Stadium, Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh congratulated all the participants on Independence Day. He lauded the media’s role for excellent coverage of Independence Day sports competitions.

He said the Punjab govt will extend every possible support to all talented players of the province. “We are also going to organize Punjab’s Fastest Man and Javelin Throw competitions in near future”. Punjab Stadium hosted an Independence Day football match between Pilot Quaid XI and Fame Iqbal XI on this auspicious occasion where Pilot Quaid XI defeated Fame Iqbal XI on sudden death goal.

It is interesting to note that both the teams failed to score any goal in stipulated time and then both the sides were given 5 kicks each to decide the title match but both teams converted four kicks each. Upon which the match was decided through a sudden death goal contest in which Pilot Quaid XI’s Ahmed struck the decisive goal.

Pilot Quaid XI’s Yasin, Umer, Bilal and Umeed scored the goals in penalty kicks contest while Ahmed, Umer, Abdul Rehman and M Awais netted goals for Fame Iqbal XI. In the Independence Day men’s hockey match, Quaid XI edged out Liaqat XI by 4-3 on penalty shootout at the National Hockey Stadium. Both the teams failed to score any goal in the allotted time period. Abdur Rehman was awarded the Man of the Match award. Aleem, Ahmed, Yasin, and Awais scored the goals for the winning team while Shahbaz, Ahmed and M Rabeeh struck one goal each for the losing team.

The Independence Day women’s hockey match was played between Fatima Jinnah XI and Begum Rana Liaqat XI in which Fatima Jinnah XI emerged winner by 3-0 on penalty shoot outs. Ibra, Areeba and Sharika scored for Fatima Jinnah XI. Sana Amanat was awarded Best player’s award.

The winning teams were awarded Rs 15,000 cash prize and trophies while the runners up sides pocketed Rs 10,000 and trophies in hockey and football events. The goalkeepers of the winning team were given a special prize of Rs 2000.

Sindh – City Cricket Association Tournament 2021-22 Code of Conduct Violations

Lahore, August 14, 2021 (PPI-OT):Sukkar’s Imran Khan Butt was fined 30 per cent of his match-fee for breaching the PCB Code of Conduct for Players and Players Support Personnel during his side’s City Cricket Association Tournament 2021-22 match against Zone VI at the KCA Stadium on Saturday.

Imran had violated Clause 2.6 of the PCB Code of Conduct (Level 1), which reads as: “Using a gesture that is obscene, offensive or insulting during a Match.”

Imran pleaded guilty to the charge proposed by on-field umpires Fahim Bukhari and Aqeel Aadil.

T20 World Cup-bound England to play in Rawalpindi

Lahore, August 13, 2021 (PPI-OT):The England men’s side that will feature in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 will visit Pakistan in October for two Twenty20 Internationals. Both matches will be played at the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi on 13 and 14 October.

Eoin Morgan’s side, along with Heather Knight’s team, will arrive in Islamabad on 9 October and while the men’s squad will depart for Dubai on 15 October, England women will stay back for the three ODIs to be played on 17, 19 and 21 October at the Pindi Cricket Stadium.

PCB Chief Executive Wasim Khan: “We are delighted to welcome both the England men’s team for what will be their first tour to Pakistan since 2005, and the England women’s team, who will be touring Pakistan for the first time. Both are additional tours with England men’s side scheduled to return to Pakistan in the last quarter of 2022 for white-ball and ICC World Test Championship fixtures.”

Both Morgan and Knight’s sides are 50-over world champions. England men are ranked No.1 in ICC T20I Team Rankings and England women are second – just five points behind ICC Women’s T20 World Cup winners Australia.

The matches were earlier scheduled to take place at the National Stadium, Karachi, on 14 and 15 October, but have been rescheduled due to operational and logistical reasons.

Four-run first innings lead gives Rawalpindi title

Lahore, August 13, 2021 (PPI-OT): Rawalpindi won the Northern-leg of the two-day City Cricket Association Tournament 2021-22 on first innings lead basis after their final against Islamabad ended in a draw at the Shalimar Cricket Ground on Thursday.

Rawalpindi successfully defended their first innings score of 206 to dismiss Islamabad for 202. When the match ended, Islamabad were 52 for one after Rawalpindi had set them a 239-run victory target.

The stars of Rawalpindi’s victory were Hamza Arshad and Raheel Wakeel, who scored 54 and 50, respectively in their side’s modest 206, and Kashif Ali, who grabbed four wickets for 54 runs to help his side dismiss Islamabad four runs short.

In the two-group 11-team Northern-leg, Rawalpindi topped Pool A with two wins and two draws from five matches, while Islamabad topped Pool B with one win and one draw from four outings.

Rawalpindi’s Hamza, who scored 54 and 69 in the final, was the most successful batsman with 550 runs at 78.57 with a best score of 129 not out.

Second on the batting chart was Sarmad Hameed from Jhelum who scored 431 runs from five matches at 86.20 with unbeaten 157 his best in the tournament. The right-handed batsman had scored two centuries and one half-century in the tournament, while his teammate Mohammad Ajmal finished as the third leading run-getter with 335 runs at 67.

Rawalpindi’s Kashif Ali, Jhelum’s Shoaib Amir and Attock’s Nadeem Sikander shared the bowling honours with 26 scalps apiece.

Kashif bagged two five-fers and one 10-wicket haul, leg-spinner Shoaib’s best figures in an innings were six for 38, while left-arm spinner Nadeem’s best returns in an innings were six for 93.

Triangular stage commences in three City Cricket Association Tournaments

The triangular stage of the CCA Tournaments has commenced in Central Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh.

In the three-group 19-team Central Punjab-leg, Faisalabad, Sialkot and Sheikhupura qualified for the triangular stage. Faisalabad and Sialkot topped their respective pools with two wins and two draws from five matches each while Sheikhupura topped Pool A with four drawn games from six outings in the tournament.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, amongst 19 teams, divided in three groups, Bannu, Mardan and Haripur qualified for the triangular stage.

In Sindh, amongst 17 participating teams, divided in three groups, Sukkur, Zone VI and Zone VII qualified for the triangular stage.

Thirteen teams in the Balochistan-leg of the CCA Tournament are competing in the group stage to secure the two spots in the final. These teams are divided into two groups.

The final of the 14-team Southern Punjab-leg will be played between Muzaffargarh and Vehari from 15 August.
