GCU to establish Kamyab Jawan Sports School 

Lahore, March 03, 2022 (PPI-OT):The three-day 121st Annual Sports of the Government College University began on Thursday at a grand inaugural ceremony at Punjab Stadium which was marked by fireworks, march past and music concert. Special Advisor to Prime Minister on Youth Affairs Usman Dar was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony which was also addressed by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr Asghar Zaidi, Lahore Qalandars CEO Atif Rana and Higher Education Commission Director-General (Sports) Javaid Memon.

About 11,000 university students are participating in the annual sports, which include athletics meet and gymkhana events. About 35 contingents participated in the grand march past, while the musicians hailing from GCU Nazir Ahmed Music Society presented special anthems. Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr Asghar Zaidi said GCU wishes to establish Kamyab Jawan Sports School which will bring about great change in promoting sports talent in Pakistan.

Prime Minister Special Advisor on Youth Affairs Usman Dar said the Kamyab Jawan Sports Drive would give sports heroes to Pakistan. He assured the Vice-Chancellor of the government support in establishing Kamyab Jawan Sports School, saying that it would be an exemplary initiative for the promotion of sports in Pakistan.

Lahore Qalandars CEO Atif Rana, an eminent Old Ravian, said GCU has made sports part of education. He appreciated the Vice-Chancellor for organizing a very colourful sports gala. He pledged to support his alma mater in establishing new sports facilities. Later, the first day of the annual sports event was marked by 100-metre race and other athletics events.

The most enthralling Gymkhana events, such as Ministerial Staff Race, Naib Qasid Race, Four-Legged Race, Cricket Throw Ball for Girls, Pillow Fighting, Staff Children Race, Stilt Race, 60-Metre Race, Sack Race, Chatti Race for Girls and Obstacle Race will be held at the closing ceremony at GCU Oval Ground, Main Campus, on Saturday.

IIU delegation participates in NRA Operationalization Ceremony at PM House 

Islamabad, March 03, 2022 (PPI-OT):A delegation of International Islamic University (IIU) headed by Vice President Academics, Prof. Dr. Ayaz Afsar attended the ceremony at PM house in connection with the complete operationalization of the National Rehmatul-lil-Alameen Authority (NRA) that was graced by Prime Minister Imran Khan as a chief guest.

The delegation included university Deans, Professors, senior faculty members, chairpersons and students. The event was also attended by Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood with whom the IIU delegation also met on the side-lines of the ceremony. It was also attended by the Minister for Religious Affairs Pir Noor ul Haq Qadri and Chairman NRA Dr. Anees Ahmed.

The ceremony was also attended by IIU’s member Board of Governor (BoG) Dr. Muhammad Amir Tuaseen (who is selected as member NRA) and DG Dawah Academy, Dr. Muhammad Ilyas (who has also been selected as member NRA). In his address, the prime minister said one of the main reasons for establishing the Rehmatul Lil Alameen Authority was to guide the young generation about the glowing teachings of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) for real success in this world and hereafter. The Premier also mentioned the presence of IIUI delegation.

He emphasized the importance of character-building of the new generation, adding that a morally strong society never allowed the powerful and elite to plunder the public money through corruption. The NRA was established last year with the aim to promote research on Seerat-e-Tayyiba and acquaint the youth with the life and teachings of Hazrat Muhammad Rasool Allah Khatam-un-Nabiyeen Sallallaho Alaihe Wa Ala Alayhee Wa Ashabehi Wassalam in order to save them from social evils.

UVAS launch spring plantation drive at Ravi Campus 

Lahore, March 03, 2022 (PPI-OT):Earlier, The Green Youth Movement (GYM) of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore in collaboration with Punjab Forest Department Kasur and UVAS Estate Management Department jointly launched spring plantation drive at UVAS Ravi Campus Pattoki. Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad (SI) launched spring plantation drive by planted a sapling to promote greenery besides Animal Clinics at A Block of Ravi Campus while senior faculty members and students were also present.

UET organizes Centennial Alumni Reunion and Family Gala 

Lahore, March 02, 2022 (PPI-OT):University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore organized one-day Centennial Alumni Reunion and Family Gala. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar inaugurated the event while cutting the ribbon. More than 4000 university graduates along with their families participated in the Gala held at the football ground and visited more than 50 stalls. The event covered different activities including Dramatic Performances, Musical Performances, Play Land for children, Brand stalls for shopping, Photo Booth, Fun Games, Lucky Draw and Face sketching.

A commemorative ticket issued by Pakistan Post on completion of 100 years of the University was presented for sale at the Family Gala, while a large number of participants also bought Centenary Commemorative Coin issued by State Bank. The families participating in the Gala appreciated the university administration for organizing this event. At this occasion, Vice Chancellor UET Prof. Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar not only visited stalls but also mingled with the Alumni and their families. He also expressed his determination to hold such activities in future.

Sindh University extends date of submission of exam forms of LLB 3-year program 

Jamshoro, March 02, 2022 (PPI-OT):Sindh University Jamshoro has extended the date of submission of annual examination forms for the 3-year LLB program till March 4, 2022 following the request received by the principals and candidates of the affiliated law colleges.

According to a notification issued by the controller of annual examinations Prof. Dr. Siraj-ul-Haque Kandhro, the examination forms of LLB Part-I (Failure), Part-II and III (Fresh and Failure) for the year 2020 under LLB 3-year program could now be submitted till March 4 with a late fee of Rs. 3000. According to the controller, the other terms and conditions in this regard will remain the same as stated in earlier notification.

SSUET organizes Thalassemia Awareness Program

Karachi, March 02, 2022 (PPI-OT):Centre for Guidance Career Planning and Placement of Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) organized Thalassemia Awareness Program at the campus that was attended by Convenor Guidance Centre, Siraj Khilji, Dean Faculty of Computing and Applied Science, Prof Dr Aqeel ur Rehman, Director Guidance Centre, Dr Shakeel, Dr Tabinda, Madiha Aadil, Mrs Munira Vali Uddin (wife of Vice Chancellor SSUET), Mrs Husna Sarfraz (wife of Registrar SSUET), and a large number of faculty members and students.

Chief Guest of the event was Reema Ismail, wife of Governor Sindh. Thalassemia is blood disorders that affect the body’s ability to produce hemoglobin and red blood cells. Treatment can include blood transfusions and iron chelation therapy. Speaking on the auspicious occasion, Reema Ismail said that the Thalassemia is increasing at alarming rate in Pakistan. The main reason behind the spread of Thalassemia in Pakistan is lack of awareness and holding of such events may create awareness among people to respond appropriately for prevention and protection from the horrible disorder.

Raising awareness about Thalassemia and its prevention through premarital screening of individuals can prove helpful in reducing the chances of its transmission to the next generation. Thalassemia is spreading in Asian countries while other counties has controlled the disease. Pakistan has around 100,000 Thalassemia patients and every year 5,000 to 8,000 children are born with Thalassemia major in Pakistan.

Treatment of the disease cost around 10,000 to 25,000 per child. Patient may die if he was not treated well. Expected life of Thalassemia patient is 12 years. Emphasizing on to establishing Thalassemia Screening Camps at the universities, she told that for community engagement, efforts are made to develop liaison with the Bohra and Agha khan Community to commence a screening drive and post screening for carriers. This progress will move ahead in various forms in the community. She asked students to join CHECKMATE, a volunteer program for universities and colleges under the umbrella of Thalassemia Free Pakistan.

Appreciating the work of the dedicated SSUET team, she said, “The event was a well- organized and well attended program and we were impressed with your efforts to support the noble cause. Our mission is to prevent and cure Thalassemia by creating widespread awareness through community engagement on prevention, early detection and increased access to treatment.” Addressing the seminar, Vice Chancellor Prof.

Dr Vali Uddin, said that this is a one of the most important issue that must be addressed at humanitarian ground at priority. Collective effort of all NGOs and concerned organization in collaboration with the Government is necessary for eradication of the disease to form a healthy and better society. Dr Abdul Mateen Ansar of the Governor House gave a very informative presentation about the prevention and cure of the disease, while Thalassemia victim, Jatin Chela Ram Kewlani shared his experiences. Registrar SSUET, Commodore (R) Syed Sarfraz Ali presented the vote of thanks.
